Winter 2026/27 • Recreational snowboarding
Snowboarding Travel InsuranceCheck the extension before you ride
Snowboarding is not automatically included in standard travel insurance. Learn which extension is required, where its published conditions apply and what to verify before reaching the mountain.
Snowboarding travel insurance must be selected around the activity—not merely the destination. For the SoEasy options explained here, eligible amateur recreational snowboarding requires the WINTER SPORTS (SKI)/ SUMMER SPORTS EXTENSION on an eligible Single Trip plan.
A winter holiday can combine ordinary tourism with days on the mountain, lessons, marked runs and possibly off-piste plans. These details affect how the activity conditions apply. Your resort, route, riding days and purpose should therefore be clear before you complete the quotation.
This guide explains the published conditions and the checks that reduce avoidable mistakes. The final certificate, benefits table, extension wording and general exclusions remain the documents that determine the insurance contract.
What Is Snowboarding Travel Insurance?
Snowboarding travel insurance is travel insurance that includes terms applicable to eligible snowboarding activities. It may be sold as specialist cover or, as in this case, created by adding an optional sports extension to an eligible travel policy.
The name of a mountain destination does not activate the activity cover. A policy for France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, Greece or Georgia can list the correct country and dates while still lacking the extension required for snowboarding.
Accurate journey
Departure country, every destination and transit country, plus the complete travel period.
Eligible product
A qualifying Schengen Traveler or Worldwide Traveler Single Trip plan.
Correct extension
The Winter Sports (Ski)/Summer Sports Extension selected before payment.
Final verification
Activity rules, duration, benefits, exclusions and assistance details checked.
All four elements must be considered together. Snowboarding travel insurance is not confirmed merely because the trip takes place at a ski resort.
Which Extension Covers Recreational Snowboarding?
Choose either SCHENGEN TRAVELER – SINGLE TRIP or WORLDWIDE TRAVELER – SINGLE TRIP, as appropriate for the available itinerary, and add the WINTER SPORTS (SKI)/ SUMMER SPORTS EXTENSION.
Travel policy without the extension
It may address ordinary travel risks, but do not assume an accident connected with snowboarding falls within its cover.
Eligible Single Trip plus extension
The extension introduces the published snowboarding definition, safety conditions, maximum duration and exclusions.
If the policy was issued without it, contact SoEasy before the trip. Its published FAQ states that adding an extension may be possible only when the stated pre-trip conditions are satisfied. Do not participate until revised documents confirm the change.
For the complete cluster overview, see our winter sports travel insurance guide. Travellers planning to ski as well should also read the dedicated ski travel insurance guide.
Where Does Snowboarding Cover Apply?
The published SoEasy description includes snowboarding within recognised ski centres with organised, marked slopes or routes for public use. That wording is narrower than simply riding anywhere inside a mountainous region.
- Use a recognised resort operating for recreational visitors
- Ride on organised, marked and officially open routes
- Follow resort signs, closures and local safety warnings
- Wear suitable protective equipment, including a helmet
- Stay within your ability and the published activity rules
- Avoid dangerous, prohibited and officially closed areas
A marked run can be closed because of wind, visibility, avalanche risk, maintenance or another safety concern. Its normal status does not override a current closure. Save the resort map and follow live notices during the holiday.
Is Off-Piste Snowboarding Covered?
Do not treat off-piste snowboarding as unrestricted. The published SoEasy condition permits off-piste skiing only when accompanied by a certified guide and when the area has not been designated dangerous or prohibited. Because its FAQ groups skiing and snowboarding under the same winter-sports extension, obtain confirmation from the live wording or provider before taking a snowboard off piste.
An experienced friend is not automatically a certified guide. Likewise, using a guide does not make a closed or prohibited route acceptable. Check qualifications, avalanche information, resort boundaries and the status of the intended area.
If off-piste riding is planned, keep the guide booking and route information. Never rely on a social-media post, an unmarked track or the presence of other riders as proof that an area is permitted or insured.
Are Terrain Parks, Jumps and Tricks Covered?
The published SoEasy FAQ confirms amateur recreational snowboarding in recognised ski centres with marked slopes, but it does not specifically promise cover for terrain parks, jumps, rails, half-pipes, freestyle sessions or similar features.
Do not assume that a feature is covered only because it sits inside the resort. Check the activity definition, exclusions and any requirement concerning reasonable exposure to risk. Ask for clarification before using a terrain park if the policy documents do not address your intended riding clearly.
Competitions, contests and professional activities are expressly excluded in the published winter/summer sports information. Recreational participation should not involve racing, judged events, paid work, instruction as employment or professional training.
How Long Does Snowboarding Travel Insurance Apply?
The published Winter/Summer Sports Extension is limited to a maximum of 15 days. This is the sports period, not necessarily the complete duration of the travel policy.
A three-week European holiday might contain only one week at a snowboard resort. Review how the extension period is reflected in the selected documents and ensure every day of planned riding falls within the applicable limit.
If you intend to snowboard for longer than 15 days, request clarification before purchasing. Never shorten or divide the itinerary inaccurately in an attempt to fit a product condition.

What Is Not Automatically Included?
The extension does not make every cost connected with a snowboarding holiday an insured benefit. Verify each item independently rather than relying on a general product description.
- Owned, borrowed or rented snowboard equipment
- Theft, damage, delay or emergency equipment rental
- Mountain rescue, search or helicopter operations
- Medical evacuation beyond the stated policy benefit
- Piste closure, avalanche disruption or unused lift passes
- Lessons, packages, accommodation and prepaid activities
- Trip cancellation, curtailment or departure disruption
- Terrain parks, competitions or unlisted snow activities
Benefit names and limits differ between contracts. The selected benefits table and policy wording—not an article or sales headline—must confirm what applies.

Snowboarding Travel Insurance for Schengen Trips
Schengen visa medical insurance and snowboarding cover serve different purposes. Article 15 of the EU Visa Code requires an applicant for a uniform visa to demonstrate adequate travel medical insurance for the relevant territory and period, with at least €30,000 for the specified medical and repatriation purposes.
Meeting the visa condition does not activate the winter sports extension. Someone travelling to a Schengen snowboard resort may need to satisfy both requirements: visa-compliant travel medical insurance where applicable and the separate extension for eligible snowboarding.
Read our Schengen travel insurance requirements guide, then check that the final policy documents also confirm the sports extension.
What to Do After a Snowboarding Accident
Prioritise urgent assistance. Contact ski patrol or emergency services when required, then notify the assistance service shown in the policy documents as soon as reasonably possible and follow its instructions.
Keep the resort incident report, piste location, medical notes, prescriptions, invoices, receipts and proof of payment. Record whether the route was marked and open, whether the incident occurred on or off piste and the certified guide’s details where relevant.
If another rider was involved, exchange contact information and obtain the official report. Do not admit liability or arrange a private settlement without considering the policy instructions. Claims are assessed individually against the facts and documents.
Common Snowboard Insurance Mistakes
Common errors include purchasing ordinary travel cover without the extension, selecting the wrong territory, omitting transit countries, failing to include every riding day and assuming a Schengen certificate automatically includes snowboarding.
At the resort, avoid treating a closed route as acceptable, following others into a prohibited area or assuming that every park feature and snow activity is included. The published conditions require safe recreational participation and exclude competitions, contests and professional activities.
Select an eligible Single Trip plan and add the WINTER SPORTS (SKI)/ SUMMER SPORTS EXTENSION before payment. Cover remains subject to the issued documents, applicable benefits, safety conditions, limits and exclusions.

Snowboarding insurance FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straightforward answers about the required extension, marked slopes, off-piste riding and policy limits.
Does standard travel insurance cover snowboarding?
No. For the SoEasy products explained here, eligible amateur recreational snowboarding requires the WINTER SPORTS (SKI)/ SUMMER SPORTS EXTENSION on an eligible Single Trip plan.
Which plans can include the snowboarding extension?
Choose SCHENGEN TRAVELER – SINGLE TRIP or WORLDWIDE TRAVELER – SINGLE TRIP, according to the itinerary and availability, and add the winter sports extension before purchase.
Must I snowboard on marked slopes?
The published description includes snowboarding in recognised ski centres with organised, marked slopes or routes for public use. Follow resort warnings and avoid closed, dangerous or prohibited areas.
Is off-piste snowboarding covered?
Do not assume it is. The published off-piste condition refers to a certified guide and an area that is not dangerous or prohibited. Confirm how the live policy wording applies specifically to your snowboarding plan.
Are snowboard parks, jumps and tricks covered?
The published FAQ does not specifically promise cover for terrain parks, jumps, rails, half-pipes or freestyle features. Check the activity wording and request clarification before participating.
How long does the winter sports extension apply?
The published SoEasy conditions limit winter/summer sports coverage to a maximum of 15 days. The travel policy can have a different overall duration, so verify both periods.
Does snowboard insurance automatically cover equipment or mountain rescue?
Do not assume it does. Equipment, search, mountain rescue, helicopter transport and medical evacuation must each be checked in the selected benefits table, definitions, limits and exclusions.
Does Schengen visa insurance include snowboarding?
No. Schengen visa medical-insurance requirements and snowboarding cover are separate. A visa-compliant certificate does not automatically activate the winter sports extension.
