It gives you time to see the city and spend a full day in the interior, without changing accommodation every night. If you arrive early and feel rested, take a short orientation walk near your accommodation and find somewhere for dinner. Ask the hotel about a suitable route and how to get back. If you arrive late, leave the sightseeing for tomorrow.
Use a few minutes to confirm the next day’s meeting point and the payment arrangements for any booked activities. The first evening works best without a prepaid excursion that depends on the flight landing exactly on time.

Spend a full day in historic Paramaribo
Build the morning around the historic centre. Fort Zeelandia, the Garden of Palms and the wooden cathedral are possible starting points for a walk with a local guide. Choose two or three stops and check their current opening hours. A city walk with one interior visit is easier to enjoy than trying to enter every building. Leave time for lunch and a break before deciding how much more you want to do.
Keep the afternoon for a second walk, a food interest or a place you passed earlier. Ask your guide about the history behind the buildings as well as their appearance; the city’s colonial past deserves more than a quick photo stop.

Day 03 Commewijne · Day trip

Keep your room in Paramaribo and use the day to explore Commewijne. Pick a main interest first, then arrange the transport and any additional stops around it.
Both places appear in the Commewijne destination guide. You do not need to fit both into the same day. Confirm the return transport, entrance fees, lunch arrangements and whether the excursion includes any boat journey. Wildlife sightings should remain a possibility, not a promised highlight.
Back at the hotel, prepare your lodge bag and confirm the next morning’s collection time. If you plan to leave a suitcase behind, agree on secure storage and collection before departure.

Day 04 Road transfer · River journey
Travel to your Upper Suriname River lodge
Treat today as a journey day. For a lodge reached through Atjoni, the booking needs to cover the road transfer from Paramaribo and the onward motor-canoe journey to the accommodation.
Danpaati’s own access information from Paramaribo, for example, describes roughly three hours by road followed by two to three hours by boat. The lodge cautions that conditions affect journey times. This illustrates the scale of one journey; it is not a transfer estimate for every lodge on the river.
Ask your chosen operator for its own collection time, route, luggage allowance and expected arrival window. Confirm suitable life jackets, boarding arrangements and any assistance you need before the journey. Keep water, your rain layer and a protected pouch for documents within reach.
Once you arrive, settle into your room, attend the briefing and check the next day’s programme. There is no need to add a demanding activity immediately after the transfer.

Enjoy one full day without changing base
Choose a lodge programme that gives you activities you want to do at a pace you can enjoy. Ask whether a forest walk, a river outing or a host-arranged community visit is available for your dates and included in the price.
Before a walk, discuss the distance, terrain and time away from the lodge. If anyone in your group needs a shorter route or more breaks, say so when booking. A programme described as suitable for everyone may still involve steps, uneven ground or boat boarding.
For a community visit, follow your hosts’ guidance about where you may go and when photography is welcome. Confirm that the visit is arranged with the community. Leave time to listen and ask questions instead of treating it as a stop between activities.
Keep part of the day free. A quiet hour beside the lodge, a meal without rushing and time to notice the surroundings are worthwhile parts of this itinerary. You can enjoy the river landscape without adding every optional water activity.

Spend the night in Paramaribo, collect stored luggage and confirm your airport transfer. Returning the day before your flight provides some separation between the interior journey and international departure; it cannot absorb every possible disruption.
If your chosen lodge is farther away, your connections are especially important or the operator recommends more flexibility, add another city night. That turns this into an eight-day plan rather than forcing a tighter return.

Day 07 Departure · Airport transfer
Let your flight time set the final day
For an early departure, organise checkout and pickup the evening before. For a later flight, agree on luggage storage or a late checkout before planning a meal or short city visit.
Confirm the airport named on your ticket, your airline’s check-in requirements and your driver’s collection time. Keep your documents and essential belongings in the bag that stays with you. Make sure you can contact the driver without relying only on hotel Wi-Fi.
A small local plan is enough for today. Save any excursion that involves a long journey for a future visit.

How many nights does this itinerary require?
Six: three in Paramaribo at the start, two at a river lodge and one back in Paramaribo. Check the count against your flight times, particularly for arrivals or departures after midnight.
Can I return from the lodge and fly home the same day?
